Close Combat Clasp (Nahkampfspange)
The Close Combat Clasp (Nahkampfspange) was instituted on november 25, 1942 to supersede the Infantry Assault Badge.
As you can see it had to be worn above the left breast pocket
Winter Gerhard has been given the bronze one
Like most of medals it came in three grades : Bronze, Silver and Gold
Bronze : 15 days close
quarter fighting
Silver : 30 days close quarter fighting
Gold : 50 days close quarter fighting
If the soldier was wounded during the fighting the criteria was reduced to 10, 20 and 40 days respectively

The gold award was a very high decoration and each recipient received a 21 day leave.
It was viewed as almost as high of an award as the Knights Cross and only 403 of the gold version were awarded
